Duracell: Just like the battery, the ads last long

Why Duracell started to use pink rabbits to promote their products may be never known, but what is known is that they lasted. The bunnies became an icon, even though they started out a little creepy. Back in 1983, they didn't have all the fancy CGI technology we have nowadays. They still used actual toy rabbits.

It almost reminds me of the Japanese pasta army. All staring into the abyss, mindlessly hitting that drum. The good part is that you can see these bunnies run out of energy one by one. All except one. The one fueled by Duracell. The little drummer bunny keeps going for up to six times longer. I just hope there's an off switch.

It also struck me that they kept one slight detail at the end for over thirty years. The "copper top" of the battery, as it's apparently called, goes on the battery as a sort of cap. You can actually still see this in the modern commercial I've included below.

Creepy anthropomorphic toy rabbits may be a hit in the eighties, but to keep this as their mascot they really needed to upgrade it. And so they did! They started animated the bunnies and they've looked a lot cuter since. The ad below is definitely my favourite, for a very simple reason.

SO. MANY. BUNNIES.
